Skills Learned

Proper Hand Washing

Properly Gowning up

In my Health Sciences class at HACTC we took a CPR and First Aid training course throughout  the class we learned how to correctly do CPR and all the steps we need to follow to do it the correct way. It is a very important skill that not only people in the medical field should know I think everyone should be CPR certified, incase someone were to need it when you are around them you could potentially save their life. The First Aid training part we learned how to cover a blood wound the correct way and how to remove the covering in the safe way by not ripping more skin off of it.

In my Health Sciences Class at Hartford Career and Technology Center, we partnered up with classmates and practiced learning how to take Blood pressure. First we watched a video on how to properly take a blood pressure, the video showed us where to place the cuff and the stethoscope to listen to the thumping of the blood. Once you have placed the cuff the correct way you have to listen for the blood thumping and once you find that, you need to pump up the cuff with the pump until it gets to 140 on the gauge, the systolic number varies depending on how old the patient is or how much they weigh.

In My Health Sciences class at HACTC we went to the Dartmouth Greenhouse and we got to see all the plants that are from different States and Countries which most of them are used to make Medicine for the hospital to use which was pretty neat. There were different climate rooms for the different type of plants that needed warmer or colder temperatures to survive.

In my Health Sciences class at HACTC we practiced in class how to gown up properly as if we were going into a contaminated room, that way we were properly protected and wouldn't get the disease or whatever contaminated the room.

We also have learned how to properly wash our hands, because that is the most important skill you need to have learned going into the medical field you need to know how to wash them the proper way or else you are going to have germs all over them and they will contaminate everything which could be bad.

In my Health Sciences class at HACTC we went on a tour of the Pathology Center at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. We learned many different things while we were there such as we watched a PA take a look into somebodys bladder,to try and figure out what was wrong with the patient. While we were there touring the Pathology center we got to walk around, and got to see how they transfer the blood to the certain places that it needs to be tested.

In my Health Sciences class at HACTC we dissected cow eyes and as we dissected it we learned what all the anatomy is of an eyeball, which was pretty interesting because I had no clue what the retina and cornea were which was fun to see in person instead of like on youtube or something crazy like that.
